Of course, rather than the genuine Flash you would be installing the Trojan horse. It’s easy to imagine how cybercriminals could trick Mac users into infecting their computers with this malware.įor instance, it would be child’s play to create a website which pretends to show something salacious (“Scarlett Johansson nude video!” would probably do well at the moment, for instance) and then when you try to view it, you’re prompted to install an update to Adobe Flash. Sophos products, including Sophos’s free anti-virus for Mac home users, detects the Flashback malware as OSX/FlshPlyr-A. Once in place, Trojan horse could allow a remote hacker to gain access to your computer or download further malicious code to your Mac. The OSX/Flshplyr-A Trojan horse (called “Flashback” by our friends at Intego, who first publicised it), is disguised as an installer for the popular Adobe Flash program. Mac users are once again being reminded to keep their anti-virus software up-to-date, following the discovery of a Trojan horse that poses as an update to Adobe Flash. That iPad Air took the basic design and physical dimensions of the 11-inch iPad Pro and trimmed some features to make it cheaper. The new iPad mini is more accurately an iPad Air mini-nearly everything about its design is lifted directly from the 4th-generation iPad Air that Apple released in 2020. And the $599 iPad Air 4 is just barely more expensive than the mini and has a bigger screen that is a better fit for the computer-y multitasking features Apple keeps adding to iPadOS.įor now, we’ll focus on reviewing the mini on its own merits for the people who already know they want one. The $329 iPad (also just updated with a new chip and other tweaks) is a great all-around tablet for kids and price-conscious adults. That’s a big if, because as great as the mini is, its position in Apple’s lineup remains awkward. (Ars Technica may earn compensation for sales from links on this post through affiliate programs.) What’s The Difference Between RAR and ZIP?īoth RAR and ZIP are incredibly popular when it comes to creating archives. Let’s look at the differences between them, how to use them, and how to convert RAR to ZIP and back at any moment. There are lots of formats for archiving files. Archives keep the files and relationships between them exactly the same - with the added benefits of only having to deal with a single file that could also weigh less due to compression. So what do you do?Ī great solution is to archive whatever you’re about to send before you send it. Similarly, when you share an app (which is essentially a folder), most likely it won’t work on another Mac. If you put them in a folder, it often arrives empty. If you share too many files, they become hard to manage and some of them could get lost or overlooked. While it’s relatively easy to share one file over email or a cloud storage solution - sharing folders or multiple files at once is often a challenge. It could be a photo album from the latest trip or a collection of financial reports from the last quarter - our goal in all cases is to make sure the files arrive intact. Part of our digital day-to-day lives right now, whether personal or work-related, is the constant sharing of files. Compress and unpack any files on Mac with Archiver. There are three different versions of Hackboot we’ll need to use two of them in this guide. To help Mountain Lion start, you’ll need to use Olarila’s Hackboot CD.

Origin's app actually isn't terrible anymore, but it's also EA so I refuse to give any more money to that either. I see no reason to give people like that my money. It's a coin flip as to whether valve shows any concern for your problem, especially if it only concerns a small amount of people. I hate steam because the app is garbage, they let garbage onto their store, and they just don't seem to care. I dislike the fact you can't play different games from the same library on two computers simultaneously, though. No other client does so many things besides game purchase. I'm not into cards and badges so I don't care about that. I like Steam for achievements, reviews, forums, customization, constant sales, library management (which could be better but is still much better than the others, when you have hundreds of games it's a plus). (Steam excepted, I've only used the Windows versions, though.) I also don't get the Origin and Uplay hate, though I hardly use them since the catalog is much smaller than Steam's. I don't get the Steam hate, but to each his own I guess. Hmm, it is the MAS you're talking about, right? Right? Now this is a god awful piece of software! They also have more interesting games, but also way more junk. The prices are also way cheaper, with good sales, and you can buy Windows versions really cheap and later get the full priced Mac version for free. Well, if you are Windows gaming or use wrappers, Steam gives you more value. If you use Microsoft Office 2011 (which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more) and upgrade to High Sierra, Office will stop working completely. One of these software packages is Microsoft Office 2011, which many people use on campus. This is especially important with the imminent release of macOS 10.13 (known as ‘High Sierra’), as changes to the Operating System mean that a number of software packages will no longer work. This ensures that any potential bugs or incompatibility issues can be identified. We always advise against updating any Operating System immediately after release. IT Services advise Apple Mac users (including iMacs and Macbooks) not to upgrade to the new version of macOS, scheduled to be released on Monday 25 September. However, Mac users will need to ensure they're using Microsoft Office 2016.ĭownload Microsoft Office 2016 for University-owned Apple Mac computers Note (January 2018): Now that macOS High Sierra is established, the information below has changed, and we advise users to stay up to date. We would like to remind staff to check that the versions of the applications they use regularly are compatible with macOS Big Sur, and to ensure that their important data is backed up before upgrading. |
